What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time‑management method: work in short, focused sessions and take short breaks. The goal is simple — reduce distractions, start faster, and finish more tasks with less burnout.

A routine that works

Work: 25 minutes • Short break: 5 minutes • Repeat 4 rounds, then take a long break (15–30 minutes).

If 25 minutes feels too long at first, start with 15 minutes and build up.

Best settings

Deep work

Work 50 • Break 10 • Long break 20

Studying

Work 25–30 • Break 5 • Long break 15–20

Busy day

Work 15–20 • Break 3–5 • Long break 10–15

Light focus

Work 10–15 • Break 3–5

Tips to make it stick

  • Write one clear goal before you press Start.
  • If you get distracted, jot it down and return to the task.
  • Stand up during breaks (don’t scroll endlessly).
  • Use sound + notifications so you don’t miss the switch.
