Study break guide
A good break refreshes you without stealing your focus. Keep breaks simple and predictable, then jump back in.
Good break ideas (2–10 minutes)
- Stand up, stretch shoulders/neck, and walk for 1–2 minutes.
- Drink water or wash your face — small physical resets work.
- Look at something far away for 20–60 seconds (eye rest).
- Quick breathing: inhale 4 seconds, exhale 6 seconds × 5 rounds.
- Tidy one small thing (desk corner, books) — keep it short.
What to avoid
- Social media “just for a minute” (it usually becomes 20 minutes).
- Starting a new video/game — it breaks momentum.
- Heavy snacks that make you sleepy.
- Checking messages that might create new tasks.
Long breaks (15–30 minutes)
After 4 focus cycles, a longer break helps your brain reset. Eat something light, step outside, or do a quick walk. Try to come back at a fixed time.
